Welcome to Leader Insights

Updated: May 8, 2024

Let me first introduce myself. I am Dr. Lew Steinhoff. An engineer by training, I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University in 1984 and immediately joined the workforce as a contractor supporting the U.S. Navy. After a few years, I jumped over to the Federal Government joining the U.S. Department of Energy where I stayed for 30 years. Along the way I earned a Master of Engineering Management from George Washington University in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University in 2016. I retired in October 2021, then moved to Fresno, CA where I live with my wife, Karen. We have four adult children (Lewis Jr, Rob, Becca, and Sam) and five grandchildren (Hazel, Annalise, Belle, Henry, and Fernando).

The purpose of this blog is to talk about topics of interest that impact people. Often things that impact people are due to leadership decisions. Sometimes they are a result of the culture. Philosophy seems to evolve over time, have you noticed? Statements like, "What is truth?" seem to be at the heart of so many disputes. Followership has changed too. It used to be your principles or moral compass influenced who or how you followed. A wave of entitlement and disrespect seems to have infiltrated society today.

This weekly blog will provide a topic and hopefully some thought-provoking words from me based on research that's out there as well as my own study. I am a Christian, but I encourage differing points of view as I believe that helps one grow. There will be plenty of fun things to discuss as well. My hope is that this blog will be an instrument of communication and learning.
